You caused a stir on the day you became my Nanna, With my birth gift of course, a brass hammer.   Your obsession with getting me the biggest card, Tinfoil wrap and sellotape making opening everything so hard. The games we’d play, bingo, dominos charades… just give us a clue, If only you’d ever choose something we knew. Like the yard long Jaffa Cake pack, Every Christmas would it make a comeback. Your literally electric shocking fashion combos, Leapoard print, slippers, cardigans and viscose. The way you’d always request a pensioners portion, But not for the sweets, oh no… You had Werthers, purple Quality Streets and Forerros a fortune. The pictures of me on every wall of your bungalow, Made me feel like I’m the star of the show. But I wasn’t the only one up on the shelves, An ensemble of monkeys, clocks and no other than laurel and hardy themselves. Your gormless looks, To your assorted glitzy or tiny notebooks. We were the dancing duo, as you dazzled the dance floor, Powered by Harvey’s sherry that you did adore. The highbrow content you’d watch and read, The Sun and East Enders at which you’d plead, ‘don’t phone - my programme’ Woe be-tied if the phone rang, you’d really throw your toys out the pram. Nanna, with two n’s not one, I could go on and on about the things we’ve done. But now I must take these memories we’ve made, Along with the spirit, energy and strength you portrayed. Into everything I do, Forever in memory of you. My Nanna with two n’s not one.
